General Contractors Redlands Mesa

Redlands Mesa is one of the nicest areas in Grand Junction, and we’ve helped make it what it is today. With beautiful homes, an amazing location, and wonderful amenities, we think that Redlands Mesa is a perfect area to live. That’s why we’re proud to be the general contractors that homeowners in Redlands Mesa trust most. Western Constructors built many of the homes in the Redlands Mesa area, and we think that our work there speaks for itself. But when you first drive past a home, the first thing you think probably isn’t going to be, “I wonder who the general contractors for that project were.” So while we’re confident that you’ll be impressed with what we’ve built if you take a look around the area, we also wanted to let people know that we’re behind a lot of the work there.

We’ve talked a bit about our work at Redlands Mesa before because we’re proud of the work we’ve done—and the work we continue to do—in the area. The homes in Redlands Mesa are well designed in a modern way that stands out to people who go by. They’re built with a high-desert flair that blends seamlessly with a modern look, and the location is incredible. Redlands Mesa offers amenities like hiking trails, a community pool, and the #1 rated golf course in Colorado. And when you consider that the community is only five minutes from downtown Grand Junction, it’s hard not to think that it’s the best place in the city to live. We’re proud to say that many of the homes there are the work of Western Constructors, and the high quality of the Redlands Mesa area is a reflection of the high quality of our work.

Proximity to the Outdoors

Another great thing about building a home in the Redlands Mesa area is its proximity to the outdoors. For those who love to hike, bike, or swim, Redlands Mesa has many opportunities for you to keep active. Many of the homes that we’ve been the general contractors for have direct access to the outdoors and are built so close to the many trails and rivers that you’re never far from your next adventure. Being able to stay active is one of the best parts of living in Grand Junction—it’s one of the best things about living in Colorado in general. Why wouldn’t you want to enjoy the outdoors in the most beautiful state in the United States?

Even if you’re not interested in outdoor activities like kayaking, the view from the Redlands area is unbeatable. If someone living in the Redlands Mesa area wants to see the desert, the Valley, and the many mountains and mesas around Grand Junction, all they have to do is look out their window. Many of the homes we’ve built are also near the Redlands Mesa golf course and club house, which you can read more about on their website here. One of the amazing things about building a home there is that you have instant access to a community, and being a member of the club at Redlands Mesa has many beneficial perks for homeowners. With outdoor activities, a wonderful community, and the best view in Grand Junction just outside your door, we think that the Redlands Mesa area is one of the best places in the city to build a home.

Upcoming Residential Projects

Though we’ve been talking a lot about our business and commercial construction lately—take a look at this article about our work beginning in the Dos Rios area, for example—Western Constructors will also be the general contractors for several upcoming home projects. Some of these homes are in the Redlands Mesa area. Neighbors and community members have enjoyed the homes we’ve built for residents so much that they keep asking us to come back and build more. And we’re happy to do it, too. We love the area, and we’re happy that we have the opportunity to keep coming back and keep making Redlands Mesa a wonderful area to live. We think that building homes for people in parts of Grand Junction as beautiful as Redlands Mesa is a benefit to homeowners and the community at large.

One of the things we’re proudest of is the fact that many people have come to us recently asking us to be the general contractors for their homes. They know about our work at Redlands Mesa, our work at the Las Colonias business park, and our work at the Dos Rios area, so they know what to expect from us: quality. Often, a family looking to build a home has asked specifically for Western Constructors, and we think that says a lot about the level of quality we strive to maintain. Some families we’ve spoken with have said that they won’t buy a home built by anyone but Western Constructors. We’re so grateful to those people who have seen our work and chosen to make us the general contractors for their homes. We know that it’s a lot of responsibility—that’s why we always try our best to do things right.

Making Our Vision a Reality

We don’t just want to tell people that we’re the best general contractors in Grand Junction; we want to show them. And if you drive by the Redlands Mesa area, you can see the quality of our work for yourself. Every time you drive by and see a beautiful home there, there’s a good chance that we had a hand in the project. We like to refer to our work in the Redlands Mesa area as one of the projects in our “string of pearls,” which you can read more about in this article here. For a long time, we’ve had a vision of developing Grand Junction, and we’re proud to help bring it to life. We’ve helped revitalize some of the oldest areas in the city, and we’ve helped improve the Redlands area in our effort to make the city of Grand Junction the best it can possibly be.

How To Hire The Right Commercial Contractor

As Grand Junction has continued to grow and expand, more and more projects have been popping up all over the city. But with new buildings, new expansions, and new deadlines come new problems. How can you be sure when you hire a commercial contractor that they’re qualified for the job? How can you make sure that the company you hire will be efficient and cost-effective? People often wonder how to hire the right commercial contractor for their project; it’s not an easy decision to make, and if you don’t know the right questions to ask or things to look for, you might end up regretting your choice. But we’re here to make it easy for you. In this article, we’ll talk about several things to consider when hiring a commercial contractor in Grand Junction so that you can make a well-informed decision before you take on a new project.

How Much Experience Do They Have?

When you’re shopping around for a commercial contractor, one of the most important things to consider is the amount of experience that the company has. More than every other factor (like efficiency, which we’ll touch on later), experience is important because it can make or break an entire project. A commercial contractor can have great reviews, get most of its projects done on time, and look good on paper, but if they don’t have experience, they could still ruin your project. What happens when something unexpected develops during the project delivery? A company with experience will know what to do—delays will be minimized, which saves you time and money. An inexperienced company might stand around scratching their heads. As good as they might be, they can’t be prepared for the kind of unexpected things that happen on the job. The only way to prepare for them is through experience.

At Western Constructors, we’re proud of our experience. If you need a few reasons to trust us, just look at the amazing work we’ve done at the Los Colonias business park and begun in the Dos Rios area. We have experience you can see just by walking around downtown Grand Junction. We’ve revitalized the downtown area, helping bring in new businesses, jobs, and opportunities to the city. We also have decades of insight into consumer and client trends, which means a lot in our business. It means that we have the experience necessary to complete your project on time and to your satisfaction. We know we can do it because we’ve seen it before—whether you’re looking to expand your home or business or build from the ground up, we have the knowledge and experience necessary to help that other commercial contractors in Grand Junction simply don’t have.

Another important thing to consider when hiring a commercial contractor is whether a company is properly licensed and insured. If a contractor doesn’t have the proper business license, isn’t bonded, or doesn’t have liability insurance, it could be a disaster for you. So make sure when you hire a commercial contractor that they’re ready for all aspects of the job. If something goes wrong, you’ll thank yourself for it. If you’re interested in more about this, check out this article here. It has some more information about safety assurance and making sure you hire the right construction company.

Do They Have Good Customer Service and Reviews?

If a company’s hard to reach, that’s probably another good sign that they’re not the right commercial contractor for you. If they’re rude or unapproachable, it means that they’ll make your project (and your life) more difficult than it needs to be. If there’s a dispute between a contractor and a designer, for example, would you want it handled by someone who didn’t have the courtesy to act professionally when you first encountered them? Customer service is an important thing to consider when making your decision. At Western Constructors, we’re always readily available, and we value integrity and respect above all else. If you need help or just want to talk to us about your project, we’re more than happy to take your call. You can find all of our contact information on the About Us page on our website under “Contact Us.”

Word of mouth and recommendations are some other good resources to use when hiring a commercial contractor. If a company has been around a while and has a good reputation, you’re far more likely to be satisfied with your project when it’s finished. Newer companies won’t have that reputation—and that means they also don’t have a reputation to worry about destroying. A commercial contractor’s good reputation is like insurance for your project; just as you want to make sure your project is efficient and cost-effective, commercial contractors with good reputations want to maintain their good image. We’re proud of all the work we’ve done here at Western Constructors, and we’re confident that if you ask around, people who have worked with us before will tell you about our respect, integrity, and ability to get a job done right.

How Efficient Are They?

Another important question to ask when considering a commercial contractor is, “How efficient are you?” You want to know whether a company is able to consistently meet their deadlines. If a commercial contractor is known for delays, extra costs, or handling business unprofessionally, it’s probably a good idea to avoid hiring them. Efficiency is a top priority for any commercial contractor; that means that the more efficient a company is, the more you can trust them to get your project done on time without additional costs or delays. At Western Constructors, we take pride in our efficiency. We’ve been putting up buildings and completing projects all over Grand Junction on time and with as little cost as we can. Part of the reason for that is the design-build atmosphere that we’ve talked about before on our blog.

If you shop for the cheapest option around, you’re liable to find someone who is either under-insured or under-qualified, and you can be sure that they will under-perform. If you ignore things like efficiency, customer ratings, and experience, you might end up with a company that cuts corners. And in a business as important as ours, we know you can’t afford to hire the wrong commercial contractor. Whether it’s in delay costs, unsafe products, or arguments and unprofessional behavior, making the wrong choice will come back to haunt you. We want to help you make the right decision because we understand how important your project is to you. Make sure that the person you trust with your project treats it with the same level of respect.

Dos Rios Grand Junction CO New Construction

As one of the oldest parts of the city of Grand Junction, the Riverside area is beginning to see new signs of revitalization—and we’re proud to be a part of that process. If you’ve travelled near the Dos Rios area, you might have seen construction already beginning on renovating the area. Maybe as you’ve passed by, you’ve wondered what exactly was coming to this area of Grand Junction. If you’ve searched for “Dos Rios Grand Junction CO New Construction” on Google recently, you know there isn’t a lot of up-to-date information about the project. We’re very excited to be a part of a team that’s bringing new construction and a new outlook for the long-neglected Dos Rios area of Grand Junction. Creating a space for people to work and live in the downtown area is one of our top priorities as the general contractors for the project.

We’ve helped bring about change you can see at the nearby Las Colonias Business Park—you can read more about everything we’ve done here. We’re proud to be the general contractors working on the development there and in the Dos Rios area. Already, we’ve begun to rejuvenate an old area of town, bringing modernity, freshness, and most importantly, hope for the future. When the developments at Dos Rios are done and the new construction there is finished, this downtown area will be the center of a live-work space that provides a connection between younger people and the companies for which they work. All over the United States, live-work communities have become increasingly popular, especially with younger people, because it gives more options to people who aren’t quite ready to tie themselves down to a home.

New Companies Coming to Dos Rios

Many of the companies that will be setting up shop in the Dos Rios area will be tech and outdoor-related companies. One of the tenants that will be coming there, for example, is Sunshine Polishing, a company that paints both gondolas and ski-lifts. In the modern world, tech companies have become enormously important, and we think that providing a space for more of these kinds of companies in the Dos Rios area will help the community in many ways. It will encourage younger people to move closer to the area to live near where they work, it will help continue to modernize a part of Grand Junction that has been neglected for too long, and it will open up more opportunities for residents of the Riverside area. Tech companies are the way of the future, so we’re helping provide space to bring the future to downtown Grand Junction.

Live-Work Communities

One of the most important aspects of the new development is the way it encourages people to live where they work. On top of building spaces for tech and outdoor companies, the new construction in the Dos Rios area will bring light residential space as well as buildings that combine the two. Some of the new buildings coming to the area will be designed so that the first floor will have retail space and the upper floors will be residential. Imagine living so close to work that you can walk downstairs or bike across the street to start your day. Western Constructors is proud to be part of the team that’s making this opportunity a reality. We’re making the downtown area of Grand Junction both a place where you can live and a place where you can work—a place where you can have your cake and eat it, too.

We’ve been hard at work with the city of Grand Junction to bring fresh change to a sometimes-forgotten part of town, and we’re very happy with what we’ve already begun. We want the Dos Rios area to be somewhere where people are proud to work and proud to live, a place where you can raise your children and make a living. Where there used to be more than 3,000 junked cars, we envision a mixed-use development that stimulates downtown Grand Junction and brings new life to one of the oldest parts of the city. We’re always looking for ways that we can help improve our city and make people’s lives a little better. Western Constructors believes that this will be the future of downtown, and as the general contractors for the project, we couldn’t be happier with the vision we have for the Dos Rios area.

The Future of Grand Junction’s Downtown

Of course, part of being one of the oldest areas of Grand Junction is having character, and that’s definitely not something we want to erase. The new developments will bring in new people to the Riverside area while maintaining the rich character of its current neighborhoods. If you’re interested in learning more about this, you can read a little bit about it in this wonderful article that also talks about the other changes coming to downtown Grand Junction. The new construction at the Dos Rios development is about bringing modernity to the area while also respecting its heritage, and the article linked above talks about some ways that it will give back to the current community. In the future, there may be giveback programs for developers and businesses aimed at assisting the Riverside community in everything from the Riverside Education Center to the One Riverfront Foundation.

Downtown Grand Junction’s future, something we’ve been talking about a lot lately, is looking bright—between the Las Colonias Business Park and the Dos Rios development, we’re helping to revitalize a crucial area of town. We can’t wait to see the new companies that set up in the Riverside area and all the people that will get a chance to join the community through new residential development and live-work spaces. Grand Junction is growing, and we’re so excited to see all of the benefits that an enlarged downtown will bring to the city. So if you see construction in the Dos Rios area on your way to work or on your way home, take pride in the fact that you’re looking at the future of Grand Junction’s downtown.

Design-Build General Contractor Grand Junction

Occam’s razor is a type of reasoning you might have heard of before—it appears everywhere, popping up in everything from mystery books to medical diagnoses. What you probably didn’t know, though, is the fact that Occam’s razor also has a place in the construction industry. The reasoning goes like this: if you have many options to choose from, you should pick the best and the simplest (you can read more about Occam’s razor here). For general contractors in Grand Junction, the choice is between traditional project delivery and design-build project delivery. Design-build is a type of project delivery that works better and is simpler than traditional project delivery—so, as Occam’s razor tells us, design-build is the best form of project delivery. That’s why we’ve taken this approach to our projects. At Western Constructors, we’re pleased to be a design-build general contractor Grand Junction can be proud of.

But why does design-build work better for general contractors? What makes it simpler? When an owner decides to take on a project, there are multiple stages that they have to go through. Traditionally, there are at least two important groups of people that owners have to work with: designers and general contractors. In traditional project delivery, the owner signs two different contracts, one with each group. This seems simple enough—the designers are in charge of planning the project and the general contractors carry out those plans. But in Grand Junction and all over the United States, general contractors have turned away from this traditional method. Though it seems simple, it leaves room for burdens like disputes and litigation. What happens when something goes wrong and the designer starts to blame the general contractor? When schedules change, delays occur, and things cost more than expected, who carries the blame?

What Is The Design-Build Model?

These aren’t easy questions to answer. Nobody wants their project to be bogged down by this kind of bickering. Conflicts can lead to further delays, extra costs, and unnecessary stress for owners. That’s why design-build project delivery offers general contractors an easier way to get things done. In the design-build model, general contractors like us work together with designers from the beginning of the project to ensure that the project is completed in the most efficient, cost-effective, and agreeable way possible. We’ve talked a little bit about this concept before—you can find one of our blog posts about it here. One of the biggest upsides to design-build is that the owner only has to sign one contract. That means no more worrying about disputes or blame; that gets taken care of by the collaborative team. The project gets done faster, there’s a more friendly atmosphere, and owners save money.

In design-build, general contractors work together with designers from the ground-up to help make sure the owner’s project goes as smoothly as possible. That’s why we’ve chosen to use it for our projects; we’re dedicated to delivering the best experience we can. Doing so saves time and money because it encourages us to innovate and work together with a design team before we ever get started on the project. By being involved in the design process, we can better estimate the cost of completing the project and how long the project will take. This means less wasted time and more time spent on delivering your project. Just take a look at all the work we’ve done at the Las Colonias business park. We’ve been able make such great progress there because we know how best to handle everything from design to construction.

There’s a reason why more and more general contractors have been turning to design-build project delivery. We’re known for using this approach—while other construction companies in Grand Junction are just starting to join the trend, we’re already one step ahead. Many owners have already started to abandon traditional project delivery entirely because of the success and simplicity of using a design-build approach. When one model saves owners 6.1% in costs and its projects are finished 12% faster than the other, the choice is easy to make. If you want to look at more statistics for design-build project delivery versus traditional project delivery, you can check out this link. Over and over again, design-build has been proven to be more efficient and effective. We use this approach because we’re committed to making your construction project as smooth as possible.

The Design-Build Atmosphere

One of the most important parts of design-build to us is the atmosphere it creates. Rather than forcing you to go between two opposed teams, we bring designing and contracting together. This single-point contact emphasizes things like respect, teambuilding, and cooperation. All of these are important values to us. We care deeply about improving lives in Grand Junction, and we know that trust between owners and their general contractors is of the utmost importance. In order to build that trust, we’ve fostered a culture of open communication and dedication to common goals. Efficiency, timesaving, and being cost-effective are all important, and we’ve built our reputation on them—but more than that, we value openness and cooperation so that your vision becomes reality.

Design-build project delivery has become the fastest-growing construction process in America, and we’ve experienced its success firsthand. Encouraging an atmosphere of collaboration and partnership makes it an effective way of providing the best service without having to worry about unexpected disputes. Choosing between traditional project delivery and design-build project delivery is hardly a choice at all. It all comes down to simplicity—wouldn’t you want to choose the fastest, most effective way to get things done? If you had the opportunity to work with one unified team rather than two groups who may not have the same goals in mind, wouldn’t you want to take it? We would, too. That’s why we’ve dedicated ourselves to the design-build model. If studies have shown that one model is more successful than another, we’ll always pick that model because your trust and satisfaction depend on it.

The Future Of Grand Junction’s Downtown

You’ve probably already seen the progress at the Las Colonias business park. As you round the corner, all kinds of construction equipment is current in use. Riverside Parkway is now one of Grand Junction’s most active areas for new construction. As a general contractor in Grand Junction, we’re thrilled about this progress. As the general contractor working on the Las Colonias development, we’re extremely excited for the businesses setting up/ relocating their corporate headquarters to make Las Colonias their new home. As Grand Junction residents, we couldn’t be happier to see the beginnings of the future of Grand Junction’s downtown area.

Las Colonias Business Park

We’ve been talking a lot lately about the Las Colonias development in our blog. We keep bringing news of the development to your attention not only because we are the general contractors on the project and want to promote our work (which we also do since we’re very proud of our joined efforts with Grand Junction and the many businesses involved), but because the new business park will be the epicenter of a lot of growth in Grand Junction. There is news coverage of the area so far (check out this article from December last year on the Las Colonias business park, written by the GJ Sentinel), but we think that a lot of people have yet to realize just how big this is going to be. The Las Colonias business park could completely renovate Grand Junction’s downtown.

Downtown, Currently

Main Street in Grand Junction really lasts from about 3rd Street to 7th Street. There are obviously more businesses down to 1st, and even West of there, but the main bulk of walk-in shops and things to do as a community are within those borders. That gives people visiting the city, or current residents about four blocks of shops. There are a few growing businesses on Colorado Ave. like Grand Junction’s very own Loki Outdoor Clothing Shop just South of Main, but that area is older and still gets less walking traffic. There are also businesses that have moved or set up shop South of Main Street in anticipation of growth in that direction, like Get Air, CrossFit Juke Joint, and Edgewater Brewery. But nothing has yet incentivized growth of the overall downtown area, which could give Grand Junction a much needed economic and cultural boost. We believe that the Las Colonias business park will do just that.

Sketches By the Grand Junction Economic Partnership

If you want to see the online brochure about the Las Colonias business park, you can find it here. The brochure was created by the Grand Junction Economic Partnership and is geared towards attracting new businesses to the area. However, the overview presented on the brochure, we believe, can be helpful for anyone interested in seeing how Grand Junction’s downtown growth will look.

In the middle of the brochure are artist’s sketches of the business park and how it will tie in with Riverside Parkway, the outdoor amphitheater, and even the rest of Grand Junction’s downtown. As general contractors, we see how the project will stimulate growth for all Grand Junction. We’d ideally love to see more companies decide to set up businesses between Main Street and Riverside. Not that Grand Junction as a town needs to change. We have a wonderful place to live here now, and we certainly don’t want Grand Junction to become the new Front Range. But it will be nice, especially for younger generations, to have more options for living and working downtown.

Along Riverside Parkway

We will be building new live/work communities located at Las Colonias and at our upcoming project, Dos Rios (Dos Rios is located just West of Las Colonias, on Riverside). Dos Rios will be 60 acres of mixed-use development. There will be residential, retail, open space, and industrial construction going in very soon. Like Las Colonias, however, it will be very tastefully done. Visitors to the Dos Rios area will be delighted with our design and finish. Anyone wondering how Dos Rios will look, roughly, can look to our current projects on both sides of Edgewater Brewery.

We currently have two townhomes buildings finished on Riverside Parkway, just West of Edgewater, with another two buildings almost ready to sell. The buildings are three stories tall, making them some of the most unique homes available in Grand Junction. We will also be constructing new townhomes in the lot adjacent in the next couple years as the rest of our projects come to fruition. These newer townhomes will be two stories and very affordably priced. The East side of Edgewater has the amphitheater and the new butterfly lake, making it currently one of the most desirable places to live in Grand Junction.

Expanding Grand Junction’s Downtown

We see a day coming in the next five to ten years where downtown will stretch from Main Street to Riverside, and people can live and work in the same relative location. It’s a sort of cultural shift for Grand Junction. As contractors, we’ve seen live-work communities built across the country, to good effect. They’re unique areas for especially the younger generation of millennials and the group currently being called “iGen.” The live-work concept is very attractive to people who want to be tied in to their community, but don’t want to live with a mortgage for decades to come.

They want to work where they play and enjoy the outdoors. As our downtown area grows, more people will be able to walk or bike to work. The work itself, because of developments like the Las Colonias business park, will be higher paying that typical jobs CMU graduates could currently find in Grand Junction. We’re expecting to see more outdoor and tech companies fill out the growing downtown space, giving more opportunity to our younger generation. Plus, that kind of growth especially, as we’ve seen in larger cities, will pay off economically as well in the form of increased jobs and higher taxes collected by the city.

The Riverside area is certainly becoming an attractive location. We think as Grand Junction comes around to the benefits provided by an enlarged downtown, there will be more live-work spaces sought out in other parts of town. We’re excited to be the general contractors in Grand Junction that are taking on this type of project most.
