If you’ve read our blog the past couple weeks, you might have noticed that we’ve been sharing a lot about the industry lately. It’s true—it’s important to us that you’re kept up to date about things happening in construction. But we also think that it’s important to remind you of the services we provide at Western Constructors. We don’t want who we are to get lost in all the information we’ve given you! That’s why this week we want to tell you a little bit more about ourselves. It’s important to us that you get to know us so that we can build a working relationship. We’ve often said that at Western Constructors, we build relationships. In today’s article, we’re going to give you an overview of Western Constructors. We want you to know who we are, what we value, what we’ve done, and what we still plan to do.

An Overview of Western Constructors’ Projects

We’ve written before about some of the projects we’ve taken on around Grand Junction. In one of our articles, which you can find here, we talked about the work we’ve done in the Dos Rios area. We’ve helped make the Dos Rios area more modern as we’ve shaped Grand Junction’s downtown. And part of that new development is changing the way people live. We’ve helped create live/work communities through our residential and commercial construction in the area. This encourages growth, encourages people to move to Grand Junction, and offers people a chance to live right where they make a living. We think it’s incredible that some people just have to cross the street to get to work. And we’ve been a big part of making that happen. The Dos Rios area has been a long-forgotten part of Grand Junction, but we’ve helped make it an amazing part of the city.

We’ve always envisioned a string of pearls along the Riverside area. It originally became an idea way back in 1987, and the original vision was to create a series of parks and other projects on the water’s edge. That’s one of the reasons that we’ve been doing so much work in the Riverside area, whether it’s through our residential construction in the Redlands Mesa area or our developments at the Las Colonias Business Park. It’s our goal to help make this vision a reality, to make Grand Junction an exciting place for people to work and live. In short, design-build is a process that simplifies the entire project from planning to construction. Grand Junction 2020 Comprehensive Plan

It’s an exciting time to live in Grand Junction. Already, the landscape around the city has begun to change—and at Western Constructors, we’re proud to say that we’ve been a big part of that change. Our work at the Las Colonias Business Park, in the Dos Rios area, and our projects at Redlands Mesa have all helped make Grand Junction a better place to live (for news and information about our current projects, check out the rest of our articles on our blog here). But even more exciting things are coming to the city: if you haven’t already heard, the city has started developing a Grand Junction 2020 Comprehensive Plan that will act as a roadmap for the future. But the best part about this is that they’re looking for feedback from the community—that means that you could have a hand in the future of Grand Junction.

Changes in Grand Junction

One of the main goals of our blog is to bring you hope for a better Grand Junction—we want you to be just excited about the future of our beautiful city as we are. Grand Junction has had a history of ups and downs, but our work in the city has helped turn it into a place where people are excited to live and work. We’ve already seen people moving in from California, Texas, and all over the Front Range to participate in new opportunities and for Grand Junction’s incredible access to the outdoors. We’re dedicated to continuing that process—we want to make Grand Junction a city that all of us can be proud of. That’s why we wanted to inform you about the Grand Junction 2020 Comprehensive Plan; your input is incredibly valuable, and we want to make sure that your voice is heard.

The plan will include new zoning in the city, new construction, and many new changes throughout Grand Junction. It aims to take a look at services that the community would like to see (such as parks, roads, and fire stations) as well as new plans for residential and commercial growth. The planning process started in February of this year and is still ongoing—the city estimated that it would take about 18 months to complete, which means that it should be done by August of 2020. It’s important to the city that the final vision for the plan is a community vision, one that everyone works together to create. That’s why they’re encouraging everyone to share news about the plan with friends and colleagues in Grand Junction—they want the news to spread far and wide.

How You Can Help

One of the ways in which Grand Junction has opened its ears to residents is through its interactive map. Anyone who lives in the area can give the city feedback on what they’d like to see change in the future of Grand Junction by going onto the interactive map and highlighting areas they’d like to see fixed. You can find a link to the Grand Junction 2020 Comprehensive Plan interactive map here. The map has several tools for you to share your opinion about upcoming changes you’d like to see. For example, there are different markers you can place on the map for areas that you think are community assets that you want to see maintained or areas that you think are public safety concerns. Already, more than thirty maps have been created by residents, and the interactive map also allows other residents to review those maps and make comments.

Additionally, the city has provided two different online surveys that you can take to put your ideas out there. They have separate surveys for residents of Grand Junction and for business owners in the city—they’re looking to get as much information as they can from as many people as possible so that they can truly change the city for the better. When more people speak up and have their voices heard, the city continues to grow. The community survey asks questions about everything from how long you’ve lived in Grand Junction to what kind of residential developments you’d like to see in the future. And even though the questions have many options to choose from, you can provide more detailed feedback if you’d like; almost every question has an attached text box where you can answer the question without being restricted to a multiple-choice format.

One Grand Junction

Overall, the theme of the plan is “One Grand Junction,” and we couldn’t agree more with their goal. Our city has a beautiful community, and we want to do everything we can to continue to improve it.
